I've tried completely wiping Inkscape from the computer and starting over using: sudo apt-get purge inkscape This suggests to me that apt-get thinks that Inkscape is installed, but then for some reason only installs some of the files. Running the same command on the computer with the broken install yields: /usr/lib/mime/packages/inkscape On the computer with the working install, and the command returned a huge number of files. I have a second computer, also running Ubuntu 14.04, and I was able to install and run Inkscape on that computer without issue.
The program 'inkscape' is currently not installed. I get the following terminal output: sudo apt-get install inkscapeĠ upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 6 not inkscape After a seemingly successful installation, I cannot seem to run Inkscape. Inkscape is the best in my opinion and probably always will be.I am trying to install Inkscape on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS using apt-get. So if you want a FREE, extremely powerful SVG graphics editor, you need look no further.
It is a learning curve to be able to use it but well worth the effort after you do. Believe me, the "what you can do list" is far too numerous to type here, you simply have to read some tutorials and try it. png with Inkscape, has 3-d box creation among MANY MANY other options and effects, even text. I believe Photoshop has this ability but I don't use it, can't afford it so Inkscape is part of my main graphics collection of Blender, Gimp and Inkscape, pretty much accomplish anything that needs to be done and all free.
Scalable vector graphics (SVG) yes, it's a scalable image or (XML)file format. For those who don't know what this is capable of, I suggest browsing around for things made in Inkscape, read tutorials and such and find out just what you can do with this great SVG editor. I've been using Inkscape since (I believe) it came out, or close.
